As we approach St. Valentine’s Day, I thought of adding a few cute squares for the most romantic day of the year. Here are my Valentine’s Day Granny Squares with 20 square and applique patterns for celebrating love!
As with the previous granny square collections (see the Halloween granny squares, or the Christmas, Spring Farm, and Summertime ones…), the Valentine’s Day Granny Squares use the same Simple Circle Granny Square pattern as a base to create all the different designs.

Durable Comfy Yarn
I had been thinking about crocheting these squares for a while but didn’t have all the colors I needed and was not sure which one to get…
Until a lovely lady from Durable Yarn contacted me on Instagram asking if I’d be interested in trying their new Durable Comfy, and I knew this yarn would work wonderfully for my Valentine’s Day granny squares!
I got to try many different colors but for my Valentine’s squares, I decided to keep it mostly to pink, red, white, and lilac. All the other colors were useful for creating details and giving the squares a more lively look!

- 4.0 mm (G/6 USA, 8 UK) Crochet Hook
- 3.0-mm (C/2 USA, 11 UK) Crochet Hook
- DK (3, Light) Yarn
- Tapestry Needle
Yarn & Yardage
I used Durable Comfy (291 yds / 266 m per 100 g) in the following colors and amounts*:
- Black – Black (325) – scrap amounts
- Blue – Ocean (295) – scrap amounts
- Brown – Caramel (2210) – scrap amounts
- Green – Apple Green (2155) – scrap amounts
- Light Blue – Pastel Blue (281) – scrap amounts
- Lilac – Pastel Lilac (268) – scrap amounts
- Orange – Orange (2194) – scrap amounts
- Pale Pink – Pale Pink (2192) – scrap amounts
- Pink – Light Pink (203) – 1 skein
- Red – Deep Red (317) – 1 skein
- White – Ivory (326) – 2 skeins
- Yellow – Sunflower (2178) – scrap amounts
Feel free to crochet these squares with any yarn and the appropriate hook size.
*The yardages given here are for making 24 granny squares, which I used for making the 2 panels of a pillow (each panel has 3 by 4 squares). Make sure to estimate how many squares you’ll need for the project you want to make so that you can calculate how much yarn to buy.
Size
Each square measures 5.1″ (13 cm) when crocheted with the indicated yarn and hook.

Gauge
The first 3 rounds of a Simple Circle Granny Square should measure 2″ (5 cm).
