This new collection of floral squares includes nine crochet patterns for 6″-Flower Squares.

When I set out to crochet one square of about 6 inches, I thought it would be a challenge to come up with one. But once I started playing around with yarn, I quickly ended with 9 different squares!
So, here it is. A collection of 9 crochet patterns for 6″-floral squares.
These flower squares are very textured, fun to crochet, and showcase a large variety of stitches!
You can use your afghan blocks for any project using granny squares, but given their elaborate and old-style look, I think their best use is for blankets, pillowcases, and other home decor projects.
I first crocheted them all using two tones of King Cole Big Value Aran. You can see them in the picture above.
But I then decided to make a more colorful set using some leftover yarn from Paintbox Yarns Simply Aran but also Stylecraft Special Aran and a little bit of Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice.
All this to say that you can feel free to crochet your floral squares using any Aran-weight yarn from your stash!

- Aran (4, Medium) Weight Yarn
- Tapestry Needle

- Sample in one solid color – King Cole Big Value Aran (257 yds / 235 m per 100 g) in color Sage (3483);
- Samples in multiple colors – Paintbox Yarns Simply Aran (201 yds / 184m per 100 g).

Each square measures 6″ (15.2 cm).

Puff Stitch (Puff)
(Yo, insert hook in indicated st, yo, and pull up a loop to the same height of a dc) 3 times (7 loops on your hook). Yo, pull through 6 loops, yo, pull through the last 2 loops on your hook.
V-Stitch (V-St)
[Dc 1, ch 1, dc 1] in same indicated st.
1. Artichoke Flower Granny Square
The first pattern of the collection is the Artichoke Flower Granny Square. With its pointy petals, this floral square really reminds me of the beautiful artichokes that grew in my parent’s garden!

2. King’s Flower Granny Square
The King’s Flower Granny Square is the first of two squares with a crown. That’s why they’re called king and queen’s flowers!

3. Queen’s Flower Granny Square
Here’s the second royal square, the Queen’s Flower Granny Square! The crown is the same as for the King’s Flower, but the floral motif in the center has a more delicate touch.

The Pop Petals Flower Square has a basic flower in the center surrounded by a luxurious round of popcorn petals!

The Puff Stitch Flower Square is a puffy and soft granny square pattern with a simple 6-petal flower motif made entirely using puff stitches.

The Cluster Flower Square is the last pattern of this collection. For this square, the central flower is made using double crochet cluster stitches with 2 stitches for the first round and 3 stitches for the second round.
