How to Crochet a Cupcake Granny Square

Granny Square

With your 4.0-mm hook, crochet a simple circle granny square with the following color scheme:

Rounds 1-4. Use pink yarn.

Round 5-8. Use white yarn.

Find the free pattern of the simple circle granny square HERE.

Cupcake Liner

With your 3.5-mm hook and lilac, ch 11.

Row 1 (RS). Sc across starting from the second ch from hook. (10 sc sts)

Row 2 (WS). Ch 1 (does not count as a st here and throughout), turn. BLO sl st 5, BLO sc 5. (5 sl sts, 5 sc)

Row 3. Ch 1, turn. BLO sc across. (10 sc sts)

Rows 4-19. Repeat rows 2-3 8 times.

Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Cherry Heart

With your 3.5-mm hook and red, crochet medium heart as described HERE.

Sew the cupcake liner with the side with the sl sts aligned with the sps between rounds 5-6 of the granny square. Make sure to slightly stretch the top of the liner so that it covers the muffin (rounds 1-4 of the granny square).

With a length of light blue, embroider the cupcake sprinkles by making a few short sts in the visible portion of rounds 1-4 of the granny square.

Attach the cherry applique on top of the cupcake, and with a length of brown, embroider the stem of the cherry.

Fasten off and weave in all your ends.
