Decorate your St. Valentine’s makes with this crochet LOVE applique. Use these crocheted letters to embellish granny squares, blankets, or even your blue jeans, jackets, and clothes!
These LOVE appliques are part of my Valentine’s Day Granny Square collection with many appliques and granny squares for the most romantic day of the year.
Since I used my LOVE applique for one of the squares, I attached the letters to a simple circle granny square made with red yarn. But as I said, feel free to attach your LOVE to anything that needs a little color for St. Valentine’s Day!

MATERIALS
- 3.5 mm (E/4 US, 9 UK) Crochet Hook
- DK (3, Light) Yarn
- Tapestry Needle
YARN
I used Durable Comfy (291 yds / 266 m per 100 g). Feel free to use any yarn with the appropriate hook.
SIZE
Each letter measures about 1.4″ (3.5 cm) by 2″ (5 cm).
GAUGE
This project is too small to accurately determine the gauge.
ABBREVIATIONS (US TERMS)
- Ch – Chain
- Dc – Double Crochet
- Hdc – Half Double Crochet
- Sc – Single Crochet
- St – Stitch
- Tr – Treble Crochet
PATTERN NOTES
- If the pattern says “dc 2”, you have to crochet 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts.
- (…) – Repeat instructions within parentheses for the indicated number of times.
- […] – Crochet the instructions within square brackets all in the same indicated st.

How to Crochet a Love Letter Amigurumi
Letter L
Ch 16.
Row 1. Dc 1 in third ch from hook, dc 7, [dc 4] in next ch, dc 4, [dc 1, ch 2, sl st 1] in last ch.
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Letter O (Heart)
Crochet an extra large heart as shown HERE.
Letter V
Ch 20.
Row 1. Dc 1 in third ch from hook, dc 7, [dc 2, tr 1] in next ch, [tr 1, dc 2] in next ch, dc 7, [dc 1, ch 2, sl st 1] in last ch.
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Letter E
Main body
Ch 20.
Row 1. Dc 1 in the third ch from hook, dc 4, [dc 4] in next ch, dc 6 (mark the fifth of these 6 sts), [dc 4] in next ch, dc 4, [dc 1, ch 2, sl st 1] in last ch.
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Middle Arm
Join yarn in the same ch as marked st, ch 6.
Row 1. Dc 1 in the third ch from hook, dc 3. Sk 2 on the main body of the E, sl st in next ch.
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Assembly
Sew the letters on your final project to form the word LOVE.
Fasten off and weave in your ends.
