Ready to crochet something squishy and original for St. Valentine’s Day? Here is my free crochet pattern for my Waffle Heart Pillow!
I always loved the idea of a heart-shaped pillow crocheted using the waffle stitch. I mean, what’s better than combining a heart with the sweetest of all crochet stitches?!
So, when I started working on my Waffle Heart Washcloth, I knew I’d turn the same pattern into a cushion as well.
You can use this Waffle Heart Pillow as a decorative throw cushion on your couch or bed, as a present for your Valentine, or as a cute decorative idea for your kid’s room.
While the pattern of the waffle heart is the same as that of the Waffle Heart Washcloth, so, please, check HERE for it, in this blog post, I’ll be focusing on how to assemble your pillow, and how to add lining with a zipper so that your stuffing will stay inside!

Heart Panels
Crochet two heart panels following the same pattern as for the waffle heart dishcloth HERE.
Assembly & Lining
Place one of the crocheted hearts over your lining fabric (photo 1) and cut all around the hearts with a 0.6″ (1.5 cm) seam allowance (photo 2).
Right sides facing, pin one half of the zipper over one of the long sides of one of the fabric hearts (photo 3).
Right sides facing (wrong sides facing out), place the second fabric heart over the first one and pin the free half of the zipper over the corresponding side on the second heart (photo 4).
Push the two ends of the zipper out of the fabric (photo 5), open the zipper, and sew all around the hearts.
Make little cuts along the sewing allowance, especially around the heart bumps, and turn the fabric lining to the right side (photo 6).
Wrong sides facing, place the crocheted hearts over each other (photo 7).
Align the lining over the crocheted hearts and mark the sts corresponding to the beginning and end of the zipper (photo 8).
Using the sl st zipper join or your favorite joining method, seam the crocheted hearts starting from one marked st and ending at the second marked st.
Insert the lining inside the crochet heart, align the opening with the zipper, and pin it in place (photo 9).
Hand sewing all around the zipper, attach the lining to the crochet heart.
Stuff the pillow, close the zipper and enjoy your waffle heart pillow.

Hi Raffaella,
The washcloth size says it’s 11” but the pillow says it is 14”. How are increases made on the washcloth pattern to make it 14”?
Also, one if the links above doesn’t go to the washcloth pattern. This one…
“Crochet two heart panels following the same pattern as for the waffle heart dishcloth HERE.”
Hi, thank you for letting me know about the incorrect link, I fixed it now 🙂
Regarding the size difference, it’s just about different yarns and hooks. For the washcloth, I used DK/light worsted cotton with a 4.5 mm hook, while for the pillow, I used Aran weight yarn and a 6.0 mm hook. If you’d like a larger pillow, you could even think about making it with chunky yarn…
