Half Double Crochet Decrease (Hdc dec)
Yo, insert your hook into the indicated st, yo, draw up a loop. Without yo, insert your hook into the next st, yo, pull up a loop. Yo, pull yarn through all 4 loops on your hook.
Increase
Make an increase by crocheting two sts into the indicated st.

Puff Stitch
(Yo, insert your hook into the indicated st, yo, pull through bringing the yarn to the same level as your work) 3 times, yo, pull through all 6 loops on your hook.
Puff Stitch Decrease (Puff Dec)
(Yo, insert your hook into the indicated st, yo, pull through bringing the yarn to the same level as your work) 3 times, (Yo, insert your hook into the next indicated st, yo, pull through bringing the yarn at the same level of your work) 3 times, yo, pull through all 12 loops on your hook.
Pattern Notes
This pattern is worked in the round. So, make sure to mark the first st of each round using a stitch marker or a piece of contrasting color yarn!
Size
The finished hedgehog is approximately 4″ (10 cm) long, 3″ (7.5 cm) large, and 2.5″ (6.5 cm) tall.
Gauge
This pattern is too small to accurately determine the gauge.
Just keep in mind that the size of your hedgehog will vary depending on the yarn and hook you use.
Romantic Hedgehog Pattern
Snout
Using CA, make a MC.
Round 1. Ch 1, sc 6 in MC. (6 sts)
Round 2. Sc 1, sc inc 1, sc 2, sc inc 1, sc 1. (8 sts)
Round 3. Sc 2, sc inc 1, sc 2, sc inc 1, sc 2. (10 sts)
Round 4. Sc 3, sc inc 1, sc 2, sc inc 1, sc 3. (12 sts)
Round 5. Sc 4, sc inc 1, sc 2, sc inc 1, sc 4. (14 sts)
Round 6. Sc 5, sc inc 1, sc 2, sc inc 1, sc 5. (16 sts)
Round 7. Sc 1, sc inc 3, sc 8, sc inc 3, sc 1. (22 sts)
Round 8. Sc 1, sc inc 2, sc 16, sc inc 2, sc 1. (26 sts)
Round 9. Sc 2, sc inc 2, sc 18, sc inc 2, sc 2. (30 sts)
Round 10. Sc 3, sc inc 2, sc 20, sc inc 2, sc 3. (34 sts)
Round 11-13. Ch 1, sc in each st all around. (34 sts)
Tie off.
Eyes
Using CC yarn, embroider the eyes of the hedgehog.
Alternatively, use amigurumi safety eyes.
Romantic Hedgehog Body
Join CB in the same st where you closed the last round of the snout.
Round 1. Ch 1, (puff 1, ch 1) 11 times, puff 1, dc 10, (puff 1, ch 1) 11 times, puff 1. (24 puffs, 10 dc)
From Round 2 on, work all the puff sts in the space between the puffs from the previous round, and not in the sts created on top of the puff!
Round 2. Puff 1 in the space between the initial ch-1 and the first puff from Round 1, puff 12, dc 10, puff 1 in the space between the last dc and the next puff from Round 1, puff 11. (25 puffs and 10 dc)
Round 3. Puff 13 (the last puff is right before the last puff on the previous round), hdc 9, hdc2tog working the dec on the last dc, and the first puff from the previous round. Puff 1 between the first and the second puff on the previous round, puff 11. (25 puffs and 10 hdc)
Round 4. Puff 13, sk the first hdc from the previous round (it is hidden behind the last puff you made), hdc 9, puff 12 starting from the space between the last hdc and the first puff on the previous round. (25 puffs, 9 hdc)
Round 5. Puff 13, hdc 9, hdc 1 on the corresponding puff on the previous round, puff 12 starting from the space between the first two puffs below. (25 puffs, 10 hdc)
Round 6-11. Repeat Rounds 4-5.
Start filling your Amigurumi hedgehog.
Round 12. (Puff 3, puff dec 1) twice, puff 3, sk the first hdc on the previous round, hdc 4, hdc dec 1, hdc 3, (puff 4, puff dec 1) twice. (21 puffs, 8 hdc)
Round 13. (Puff 2, puff dec 1) twice, puff 3, (hdc 2, hdc dec 1) twice, hdc 1 on the first puff on the round below, (puff 3, puff dec 1) twice. (17 puffs, 7 hdc)
Round 14. (Puff 1, puff dec 1) 3 times, sk the first hdc on the round below, (hdc 1, hdc dec 1) twice, puff 1, puff dec 1, puff 2, puff dec 1, puff 1. (11 puffs, 4 hdc)
Round 15. Puff dec 3, hdc dec 2, hdc dec 1 over the next 2 puffs, puff dec 1 starting from the space between the next puff dec and the following puff. Puff dec 1.
Round 16. Puff dec 2, hdc dec 1. Leave the rest of the sts unworked.
Bind off leaving a long tail for closing the body of the hedgehog. Using your tapestry needle, draw the yarn through the top of the loops from the previous round and pull tight.
Finishing
Embroider the nose of the hedgehog by simply rolling a length of CB around the tip of the snout until you obtain the nose size you like.
