Vanna Blanket Square – Free Afghan Block Crochet Pattern

The crochet Vanna Blanket Square is a fun and textured afghan block that is just the perfect addition to your stitch sampler afghan blanket.

For this square, I used a variation of the Wrapped Arrow Stitch. Instead of crocheting rows back and forth, I started from the center and worked in the round.

This means that you can easily customize the pattern to make it as big or small as you need it. All you need to do is to either add or remove a few rounds!

The Wrapped Arrow stitch is a very solid yet soft stitch that is great for winter makes.

Stash-Busting Sampler Crochet Along

The pattern of the Vanna Blanket Square is featured in the Stash Busting Sampler Crochet Along 2021 with Heather from The Unraveled Mitten.

Each square of this crochet-along (CAL) is designed by a different designer and in total, there will be 20 squares.

You can find all the info and links to the previous patterns on the main page of the CAL HERE.

Materials

Yarn & Yardage

For my squares, I used ~ 142 yds (130 m) Vanna’s Choice by Lion Brand but you can use any yarn that you might have in your stash. Here are a few ideas:

Size

I would like to make a small note about the finished size of the square.

Using a 6.5-mm hook and worsted-weight yarn, your square will measure about 13″ (33 cm).

If you want a 12″ (30 cm) square, then you need to go down in hook size and use a 5.0-mm hook.

Gauge

With your 6.5-mm hook, 4 rounds worked according to the pattern in 4” (10 cm).
