When a friend of mine had a little boy a few months back, I thought of making this scary (?) and cute crochet Baby Monster Beanie as a gift!
With Halloween just around the corner, this monster baby hat is a super fun idea for a baby’s first Halloween costume.
I hope that this pattern will be helpful and give you some inspiration for a nice crochet hat for your young men!

Assembly
Attach the buttons one on each eye. For a more “monstery” look, do not place them exactly in the middle!
Then, sew the eyes in the middle-upper half of the hat body.
Sew the mouth on one side of the hat so that it is slightly crooked.
With a length of E, embroider a zigzag line on the upper part of the mouth.
Start sewing in the horns on top of the beanie so that they form a sort of crown around the head.
Optional. Before sewing the horns completely, fill the horns with a bit of cotton stuffing.
Weave in all your ends.

Thank you for your pattern. I think it is so cute and I’m making it for my Godson. I’m following the pattern for Toddler and I have a question. Starting with 11 stitches in the MC, one would need to put 2 in each stitch all the way around in order to end with 22 stitches. (The pattern says 2 in next, 1 in next…) Could you let me know if I should follow the rows as they are and change the end number of stitches or put in the 2 in 1 row, get to the 22 stitches and move straight to 2 in 1, 1 in next 2, etc? In other words, I’m not sure what the fix should be. Thank you!!
Thank you so much for your support, I am so glad you like this pattern 🙂 I hope you will enjoy crocheting it!
Your reply didn’t include the fix. Can you help me?
Hi, I am so sorry, I had only seen part of your comment.
So, you are absolutely right, in step 2 there should be an increase in each st. I fixed the pattern now and it should make sense like this. Please, let me know if you have any doubts or you notice something weird with the pattern.
Thank you so much for letting me notice this mistake! 🙂
Thank you! I finished my monster! He’s adorable. I really like the front post, back post edge. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing your pattern. I adapted it to fit a 5 year old and am so pleased with the result. I also loom knitted a hat and used the monster pieces to go on it. A great result.
Hi Margaret, thank you so much! I love your idea of using the crochet eyes, horns, etc on a knit hat! I’ll definitely try that too 🙂
I participate, as a crocheter, in a lot of blog hops you offer patterns in and I must comment your patterns are gorgeous! I always know when they are yours. You are so talented. Thank you always for your participation in offering free patterns! I love them and will be looking over your shop for more to add to my collection.
