The crochet Basketweave Baby Beanie is here and it is absolutely adorable!
This beanie is made using the basketweave stitch, which creates a very textured and stretchy fabric. The basketweave stitch also creates a sort of double-thick layer which is very soft, so perfect for winter accessories for your baby!
You can couple your basketweave baby beanie with a pair of matching Basketweave Baby Booties! I am also planning to make a baby cardigan and blanket as well with the same stitch, but that’s still a work in progress!

Using a tapestry needle, attach the pompom on top of the beanie.
Personalize your beanie by adding an applique at the bottom, just above the brim.
For the beanies that you see in this post, I used the Bunny and Small Heart appliques, which you can find here on the blog.

I made this hat for my granddaughter when she was born in February of this year. It turned out perfectly and she wore it on her trip home from the hospital. It’ll be getting cold here now and. I would like to make another one, sized for a 1 year old. How would I modify the instructions to accomplish this? Thank you!
Hi Robin,
Thank you for your message.
Unfortunately, I cannot help you right now but I’ll definitely work on larger sizes of the beanie and update the pattern as soon as possible!
Best,
Raffaella
Hello, I am interested in this pattern for a 6 month to 1 year old. Is there a pattern available for a bigger one?
Hi Nanie,
I’m sorry but I never tried to make the beanie for larger sizes. But I guess you could try making a couple of extra rounds of increases…
Let me know how it goes 🙂
Best,
Raffaella
Thank you for sharing this easy to follow patterns.
Hi, Thank you for this cute pat tern. I was wondering if the chain counts as the first stitch. I love your patterns!!! Kathy
Hi, thank you so much!
And to answer to your question, no, the initial chains don’t count as a st 🙂
