These crochet sunflowers work up real quick and are easy peasy to crochet. Fairly small in size, your sunflower applique will be just about 2.2″ (5.5 cm), which is the right flower size for so many creations!

For example, crocheted sunflowers are great for making flower garlands for your home decor or embellishing summer accessories and garments.

Another cool idea is to glue one crochet sunflower applique to a magnet for the fridge or to a greeting card! But you could also use them as earrings and colorful jewelry!

How to Crochet a Sunflower – Video Tutorial

  • A small amount of Yarn of Choice
  • Appropriate Hook Size
  • Tapestry Needle

For my sunflowers, I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK and a 3.5-mm (E/4 USA, 9 UK) hook.

  • CA – Coffee Bean (411)
  • CB – Mustard Yellow (424)

When working with DK Weight Yarn and a 3.5-mm (E/4 USA, 9 UK) hook, you can expect sunflowers of approximately 2.2″ (5.5 cm).

This pattern is too small to accurately determine the gauge.

  1. I used size 10 crochet cotton with a # 7 steel crochet hook. The sunflower was about 1 inch. I then crocheted a stem and leaf. I stiffened them, attached the flower to the stem and put earring wires behind the flower. Walla!!! earrings for spring.!!!
