Tapestry Crochet Flowery Coin Purse

While the summer is already turning into autumn, I still feel that I need some sun in my life. So, I grabbed some yarn in bright colors and made this Crochet Flowery Coin Purse!

As I already mentioned in some other blog posts, I grew up by the sea, the Adriatic Sea. I used to have the most amazing summertime as a kid on the beach, and since when I moved away from my home town, each year, I have a hard time feeling like it’s really summer.

But let’s not get lost, back to the coin purse. When we went to the beach with my parents, brother, sister, cousins, well, just a lot of family, we would always have a little purse with coins. You know, for shower coins, or ice cream, or a little snack. And I used to loooove our coin purse! It was yellow, kind of tiny. Actually, I wouldn’t know how to describe it but it was so adorably yellow.

I guess the memory of my first, yellow coin purse kind of influenced my color choice for this pattern. And that’s how my Crochet Flowery Coin Purse ended up with a mixed look of spring and summer!

I am sure it would look beautiful in many other color combos! What colors would you choose?

Color Change in Tapestry Crochet

In this pattern, I used tapestry crochet in the round to obtain the colorwork and the flowers.

In tapestry crochet, all the colors needed in a given row are carried along and you just crochet them inside your stitches with your currently used color. When you need to change color, all you do is switch your working yarn to the new color and carry the old color inside of your stitches.

If you need some help on how to change color in tapestry crochet, please, go and take a look at this tutorial on the blog where I share my tips and tricks on how to do it.

Finishing

To finish the purse, I attached a zipper but if you prefer, you can also use a purse clasp.

To attach the zipper, squeeze the top side of the purse so that the two sets of flowers are on the two sides of the purse. Place the zipper inside of your purse. You can use some pins to keep it in the right place.

With your needle and some yarn in your main color, sew the zipper to your purse.
