Get ready for summer with this super breezy and airy crochet dress to wear over your bikini. The Summer Beach Cover Up is just the perfect bathing suit cover-up to rock when the weather warms up!
Featuring a stunning geometric lace pattern, this crochet summer dress pattern is size inclusive and it comes in sizes from XS to 5XL (scroll down to find more info about sizing).
The pattern is very easy to customize, and you can either add or remove some repeats to adjust its length.
I have to admit that even though I made this pattern as a swimsuit cover-up, I’ll probably wear it the most over a pair of leggings or skinny jeans with a tank top underneath.

The Yarn
To crochet my Summer Beach Cover Up, I used some really soft Pima Comfy Fingering cotton by KnitPicks. The yarn was kindly provided by WeCrochet, who sponsored the Designer’s Summer Pick Blog Hop.
About the Stitch
For this pattern, I used the Triangles and Cones Lace Stitch.
This is a very interesting stitch with a boho, airy, geometric look.
Even though it might seem complicated at first, it is actually quite easy, as it only requires basic crochet skills, including chains, single crochet, double, and treble crochet.
I prepared a step-by-step tutorial on how to crochet the Triangles and Cones Stitch here, and also a video tutorial, which you can find on my YouTube channel here.
Construction
The pattern is constructed in two panels, front and back panels. The front panel has a slightly deeper cleavage than the back one.
Both panels are crocheted bottom-up and then split at the cleavage point in Front/Right and Front/Left, and Back/Right and Back/Left.
Finally, the two panels are seamed on the shoulders and along the sides.
Materials
- 4.0-mm (G/6 USA, 8 UK) Hook
- Comfy Fingering Yarn (1 Fine) by KnitPicks. I used the color Planetarium.
- Tapestry Needle

Block both front and left panels before seaming.
Seaming
Place the two panels on top of each other. For a more invisible seam, you do the seaming with both wrong sides out.
Seam along the top of the shoulders by joining the last rows of the corresponding right/left panels.
Leaving about 8” (7” for XS/S, 9” for L/XL, 10” for 2-3XL, 11” for 4-5XL), 20 cm (18 cm for XS/S, 23 cm for L/XL, 25 cm for 2-3XL, 28 cm for 4-5XL) from the top, sew along the sides until you reach the second block from the bottom of triangles and cones (~row 21).
Weave in all your ends.
Belt
With two strands of yarn, crochet a belt of approximately 63″ (51″, 57″, 69″, 74″, 80″, 86″, 92″, 98″), 160 cm (130, 145, 175, 190, 200, 220, 230, 250 cm) using the Knot Cord technique, or your preferred cord pattern (you could also make a simple chain).
Thread the belt through a couple of sts on the sides of the dress.
