Hobbii.com – A Review of 7 of Their Yarns

Have you ever ordered yarn from hobbii.com? I tried 7 of their yarns and here is what I think of them. I hope you’ll enjoy my honest Hobbii yarn review!

Hobbii.com Yarn Review - Raffamusa Designs

If you’re not familiar with shopping on hobbii.com, I’m sure that you have a lot of questions about the company and the overall customer experience.

That’s why in this post, I’ll share my personal experience with Hobbii yarns, and I’ll answer a few questions that you might have.

Hobbii.com

Hobbii.com is an online yarn and supplies retail company based in Denmark but shipping worldwide.

Is Hobbii.com a legit website?

One of the first questions that I had when I saw all the colors and moving things on the homepage of hobbii.com was if the website was a scam. Lol

Well, I can guarantee that hobbii.com is a legitimate company, even if sometimes their prices seem a bit too low to be true!

Shipping

Although Hobbii is based in Denmark, of course, not all their warehouses are in Denmark but located around the world. So, when you place an order, your yarn will be shipped from the closest warehouse to you.

This way, shipping is much faster and you’ll get your yarn within a week, a few days given or taken depending on how busy they are.

Since I’ve been moving a lot recently, in the past three years, I ordered Hobbii yarn from the Netherlands, France, and Italy, and each time, I had no issues with delivery.

By the way, even though they are primarily online, they also have a few physical stores in Denmark. I’m not sure exactly where these stores are located, but if you ever visit Denmark, it might be fun to look for any Hobbii physical stores!

Customer Service

If you have any problems with your order, you can always contact their customer service. They do answer very quickly and really help you out.

Of course, they cannot help with everything, and if your order was already transferred to the warehouse for shipping, it might be difficult to cancel your order or modify it.

Is Hobbii an Ethical Company?

The production of textiles, especially cotton, can come with a certain degree of labor exploitation by large companies. That’s why it is always important to shop responsibly and only from trusted shops.

In the case of Hobbii yarns, I always double-check that the yarn that I want to order has the OEKO-TEX label or the GOTS certification.

So far, all the yarns that I checked were certified, but of course, always make sure to double-check yourself too.

So, just keep it in mind before finalizing your order!

7 Hobbii Yarns That I tried

Now, here we go with the fun part. Let’s talk about yarn!

So far, I tried 7 yarns from hobbii.com, and here is my review of each of them.

1. Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/6

One of the first yarns that I tried was Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/6. This is one of my favorite yarns from Hobbii and it opens a world of creativity!

– Do not tumble dry

The best thing about Rainbow cotton is that it comes in tons of beautiful colors. The cotton is very good quality, and it is perfect for Amigurumi, home decor projects, bags, etc. I wrote a very extensive review of Rainbow Cotton 8/6 HERE, so I won’t repeat myself.

So far, I shared 3 patterns using Rainbow cotton 8/6 (see below), but I also shared a few more free patterns that you can crochet with this yarn HERE.

2. Hobbii Amigo

Next, we have Hobbii Amigo.

Hobbii Amigo - 100% Acrylic Yarn - Raffamusa Designs

I was very afraid to order Hobbii Amigo because I was convinced it would be some ugly, scratchy acrylic yarn. Don’t ask me why… Moreover, it is more expensive than the acrylic yarn I was used to, and the balls are only 50 g instead of 100 g.

But I decided to order it just to see what it was like, and I had to change my mind completely!

First, here are a few data about Amigo yarn.

– Can be tumble dried at low temperatures

Now, you might notice that the content of this yarn is HB acrylic. HB stands for high-bulk, which is a way of producing acrylic that results in a very soft and fluffy fiber.

So, remember my doubts about this yarn being scratchy? I couldn’t be more wrong! Hobbii Amigo might be the softest acrylic I tried so far and even if it costs a bit more compared to other acrylic yarns, it is totally worth the price!

If you need to crochet a baby blanket, a sweater, or any other wearables, I can only recommend this yarn.

Moreover, it comes in 61 beautiful colors.

Here are the patterns that I wrote using Hobbii Amigo.

Amigo is a DK (3, light) yarn but there is also Amigo XL, which is a medium (4) yarn, and Amigo Chunky. I’d be very curious to try these thicker yarns as well to see if the softness stays the same.

3. Hobbii Baby Snuggle

For one of my next projects in the pipeline, I would like to add some fluff, and for that, I ordered a skein of Hobbii Baby Snuggle.

Baby Snuggle is a super bulky, microfiber yarn. These yarns have become super popular lately for blankets, Amigurumi, and baby plushies. I’m sure you’ve seen them everywhere.

I have to admit that I’m not a fan of microfiber yarn. Normally, I don’t like that they shed so much, and frogging or weaving in ends is a nightmare.

Once, with a microfiber yarn from another brand, I ended up weaving in just the central thread as all the microfiber around it was gone!

For now, I still haven’t used Baby Snuggle, so I cannot say much about shedding but since it can be machine-washed, I’d expect it not to shed too much. For now, I can only say that the yarn is very soft and the color is the cutest.

I guess I’ll add more after I crochet something with it.

And maybe, I’ll follow the advice on Hobbii’s website not to weave in ends but to carefully burn the tip of the yarn. This way, it will melt into a little ball and will stop the project from unraveling.

4. Hobbii Evergreen

Another yarn that I tried and loved is Hobbii Evergreen. Unfortunately, this yarn is being discontinued, which is a real pity.

Hobbii Evergreen is a very high-quality organic merino wool yarn. The wool comes from South America and is mulesing-free, and it is then transformed into yarn in Italy.

I’m making myself a granny square sweater using this yarn and although it’s taking me a while (the yarn is super fine and I’m working with a 3.5-mm hook), the result is stunning!

Too bad they’re discontinuing this yarn. But I guess, you can still snug a few skeins before their stocks are gone!

5. Cotton Kings Sultan Deluxe Shine

The next three yarns are going to be yarn cakes.

The first one is Cotton Kings Sultan Deluxe SHINE.

Yarn Length

Care Instructions

– Do not tumble dry

Sultan Deluxe SHINE is a very long yarn cake of 1093 yds (1000 m), which is enough for a very large shawl, a scarf, or even a top or vest.

This yarn cake is made of four thin cotton strands accompanied by a fine, thin glitter thread.

Before trying it with my Triangles and Cones Shawl, I was afraid that the glitter thread would be a bit scratchy against the skin but it turned out not to be the case. In the end, you only feel the beautiful cotton and have the extra beauty of the glitter!

Compared to other yarn cakes, the good thing about Sultan Deluxe SHINE is that the yarn is lightly twined to make it easier to crochet or knit with it because you have less splitting.

As with all yarn cakes, the gradual color change is achieved by changing only one thread at a time. Be careful because the new and old threads are kept together with a small knot. You might want to double-check that the knot is strong enough!

6. Cotton Kings Sultan Deluxe

The “parent” cake of Deluxe SHINE is the simple Cotton Kings Sultan Deluxe. I say “simple” because this yarn cake doesn’t have the extra glitter of the SHINE one.

Sultan Deluxe comes in a very large palette of colors from neutrals to pretty brights, and also a few pastels and rainbows.

As for the SHINE, the yarn cake is pretty huge and you can make beautiful shawls with it!

I still haven’t made anything with this Sulatan Deluxe but I expect it to be a pleasure to crochet with it based on my experience with the Sultan Deluxe SHINE.

7. Cotton Kings Sultan Pastello

If you dig pastel colors, you’ll love the Cotton Kings Sultan Pastello yarn cakes!

Yarn Length
875 yds (800 m)
Care Instructions
– Machine wash at 30°C (86°F)
– Do not tumble dry

These Sultan Pastello cakes are slightly smaller than the Sultan Deluxe ones since they’re “only” 875 yds (800 m). But if you think about it, this is the normal yardage of most yarn cakes you’ll find around also from other brands.

This means that you’ll still be able to crochet an entire shawl or a scarf with just one cake.

As with the other Sultan cakes, Sultan Pastello consists of four strands of pure cotton, so it’s super soft and beautiful.

However, in this cake, the yarn strands are not twinned together. On one hand, this makes the yarn more airy and light, but of course, it means that the splitting will be glorious!

I guess that when I use this cake, I’ll make sure to follow the advice on Hobbii’s website which recommends you weave the yarn through a bead before starting your project. This way, the bead will keep the strands together for you!

I HOPE YOU ENJOYED MY HONEST REVIEW OF HOBBII YARNs!
