The Tunisian crochet Offset Saloniki Square is a very soft and warm afghan block with a ribbed texture and a very solid but squishy fabric.
While this Tunisian blanket square is designed to be 12″ (30 cm) in size, you can easily customize it to the dimensions you need for your stitch sampler blanket or scrap blanket project.

The Offset Saloniki square uses a variation of the beautiful Tunisian crochet Saloniki stitch.

Gauge
11 Sts for 11 rows worked according to the pattern in 4″ (10 cm).
Pattern Notes
- (…) – Repeat the instruction within brackets for the indicated number of times.
- *… – Repeat the instructions from * for the indicated number of times.
- The first stitch is included in the stitch count.
- The last stitch is worked under both loops of the final ch from the previous row.
- Throughout the pattern, the total stitch count is 32 sts. However, due to the way the pattern is worked, you will have 47 loops on your hook for each forward pass.
TUNISIAN CROCHET Offset SALONIKI Square – Free Pattern
With A, make a TFR with 32 sts.
Row 1
Forward Pass. Tighten the first loop on your hook to avoid slanting. *Tss 1 in next st, tfs 1 in next space between sts, tfs 1 in next space. Repeat from * 15 times, work the last st under both side loops. (47 loops on your hook)
Return Pass. Yo and pull through 1, (yo and pull through 3, yo and pull through 2) 15 times, yo and pull through the last 2 loops on your hook. (32 sts)
Row 2
Forward Pass. Tighten the first loop on your hook to avoid slanting. *Tss 1 in next st (photo 9), tfs 1 in each of next 2 spaces. Repeat from * 15 times, work the last st under both side loops. (47 loops on your hook)
Return Pass. Repeat the same return pass as for Row 1.
Rows 3-5. Repeat Row 2.
Row 6
Forward Pass. Tighten the first loop on your hook. *Tfs 1 in each of the next 2 spaces, tss 1 by inserting your hook under both front loops of next st. Repeat from * 15 times, work the last st under both side loops. (47 loops on your hook)
Return Pass. Yo and pull through 1, (yo and pull through 2, yo and pull through 3) 15 times, yo and pull through the last 2 loops on your hook. (32 sts)
Rows 7-10. Repeat Row 6.
Rows 11-15. Repeat Row 2.
Change color to B.
Rows 16-20. Repeat Row 6.
Change color to C.
Rows 21-25. Repeat Row 2.
Change color to D.
Rows 26-30. Repeat Row 6.
Change color to A.
Rows 31-32. Repeat Row 2.
Change color to B.
Row 33. Repeat Row 2.
Change color to C.
Rows 34. Repeat Row 2.
Change color to D.
Rows 35. Repeat Row 2.
Bind off in pattern (see how in the Saloniki stitch tutorial post).
Cut the yarn and slide the tail through the loop on your hook.
Weave in all your ends and block your square.
