Tapestry Crochet Pig Potholder – Free Pattern

The tapestry crochet Pig Potholder is the fourth potholder of my Farmhouse Collection.

Farmhouse Collection

The Farmhouse Collection started with the design of the Rooster Potholder, and it was not really meant to be a collection.

However, I really enjoyed designing potholders using tapestry crochet. So, I went on and made a goose, a cow, the pig, and kept adding more and more potholders.

Make sure to check all the designs included in the Farmhouse Collection HERE!

Tapestry Crochet

This potholder is worked using tapestry crochet.

PATTERN NOTES

  • The pattern is written in two sections. The Potholder is worked in rows, then the Border is worked in rounds.
  • The potholder is worked entirely in sc.
  • If the pattern says “(A) 5”, it means that with color A, you need to make one single crochet in each of the next 5 stitches.
  • Turn your work at the end of each row.
  • The starting ch 1 counts as your first stitch and is always made with A.
  • All odd-numbered rows are crocheted on the right side. All even-numbered rows are crocheted on the wrong side.
  • (…) – Repeat the instructions within brackets for the indicated number of times.
  • With the exception of the border, the stitch count is always 45 sts.

Thank you, Jorie!

Border

After row 45, both A and B are at the left, top corner (if you are right-handed, or the right corner if you are left-handed).

Round 1 (RS). With B, place 45 sc on each side of the potholder starting from the left side, then the bottom, right side, and top. At the corners, sc 1 in the last st of the side, ch 1, and sc in the first st of the next side. Join the round with a sl st. (45 sts on each side and 1 ch at the corners).

Round 2 (RS). With A, crab st in each st from Round 1. At the corners, make one crab st in the ch-1 space.

Once you are back at the top, left corner, make the hanging loop: ch 20 and sl st back into the same corner. Without chaining, turn your work and sc 25 inside the loop. Sl st back into the same corner st. (45 sts on each side and 1 st at the corners)

Fasten off, weave in ends.

  1. I see some problems with this pattern, I had to frog several times as your directions are not clear, you start with 46, you skip one, yet you count turning chain as first stitch which would still give us 45, but yours read 44, then you have odd rows and uneven rows? Aren’t they one in the same? I love your pattern but can’t figure it out for the life of me, please help! Thank You

    • Hi Cindy,
Thanks for letting me know about the uneven and odd confusion. I now corrected it and also updated the pattern.
I also added the link to the video tutorial where I show how to crochet the potholders of the farmhouse collection. In case, you can find the video at this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJzEcXuW3VM
I think the video can answer better than I can in written form 🙂 Let me know if it helps, otherwise, feel free to write back to me!
      Best,
