Crochet baskets fit in all the rooms of your home, from the kitchen to the living room, to bedrooms, bathrooms, and laundry.
You can crochet baskets of literally any size, from small containers for keys, make-up, and small objects, to very large, oversized baskets (maybe with handles!) for blankets, plants, or your kids’ toys.
In this post, I collected a few of my favorite free crochet patterns for baskets and organizers. These are all beautiful and easy ideas that you can choose from depending on the kind of basket you’d like to make!
To make it easier for you, I divided the list based on the skill level, the stitch used, size, etc.
- Crochet Baskets for Beginners
- Baskets that use the Waistcoat Stitch
- Crochet Baskets using other Stitch Patterns
- Mixing Crochet & Macrame
- Patterns to use Scrap Yarn
- Oversized Storage Baskets
- Hanging Baskets
- Crochet Baskets for Spring and Easter
- Spa & Beauty Baskets
But before we go on and take a look at the list, I’d like to share with you some useful tips and tricks to help you make a basket that you’ll really love.
Help, my crochet basket is floppy!
To our disappointment, we’ve all crocheted at least one floppy basket in our crafty life.
The thing is, yarn is soft! No matter how scratchy or rough you think it is, when you use it for a basket, it might not be as stiff as you imagined.
So, how do you crochet a sturdy basket? Here are my tips:
- Use bulky yarn! My favorite yarns for making baskets are T-shirt yarn, rope, or macrame cord. But you can also “make” bulky yarn by working with more strands of finer yarn.
- Use a smaller hook size. Your stitches need to be pretty tight!
- Consider using a wooden bottom as a base for your crochet basket. This way, your basket will deform way less!
Of course, sometimes, floppy baskets are totally ok. Especially if you’re going to hang them.
So, always keep in mind the final use of the basket before choosing a pattern.
Alright, now, let’s take a look at these beautiful, free crochet baskets and organizers.
