Learn how to make double crochet solid triangles in the round in two slightly different versions, one with holes at the vertices and one without any gaps at all!
After seeing how to crochet a granny triangle in the round, here, we’ll see how to crochet double crochet triangles in the round, which are the first two of the triangles shown in the picture above:
- Classic solid triangle in the round (the pink one in the middle in the picture above)
- Completely solid triangle in the round without gaps (the light blue on the left in the picture above)

- Any yarn
- Appropriate crochet hook size
For this tutorial, I used Aran-weight (4, medium) yarn and a 5.5 mm (I/9 US, 5 UK) hook.
Abbreviations (US Terms)

Patterns Notes
- If the pattern says “dc 2”, you need to dc 1 in each of the next 2 sts.
- (…) – Repeat the instructions within parenthesis for the indicated number of times.
- *… – Repeat the instructions from * for the indicated number of times.
- […] – Crochet the instructions within square brackets in the same indicated st.
Classic Double Crochet Solid Triangle in the round
Make a MC.
Round 1. Ch 5 (counts as a dc and a ch-3 sp here and throughout) (photo 1), (dc 3 in MC, ch 3) twice, dc 2 in MC, sl st in third-made ch to join. (9 dc sts, 3 3-ch sps, photo 2)
Round 2. Sl st in first ch-3 sp, ch 5 (photo 3). [Dc 2] in same ch-3 sp, *dc 3 (photo 4). [Dc 2, ch 3, dc 2] in next ch-3 sp (photo 5). Repeat from * twice. Dc 3, dc 1 in initial ch-3 sp (indicated by the arrow in photo 6). Sl st in third-made ch to join. (21 dc sts, 3 ch-3 sps, photo 7)
Grow your triangle as follows:
- Sl st in first ch-3 sp, and ch 5 (counts as dc and a ch-3 sp);
- [Dc 2] in the same ch-3 sp;
- Dc 1 in each dc from the previous round;
- [Dc 2, ch 3, dc 2] in each ch-3 sp;
- Dc 1 in the initial ch-3 sp.
- Sl st in the third-made ch to join.
Completely Solid Double Crochet Triangle in the Round No Gaps!
Make a MC.
Round 1. Ch 2 (does not count as a st here and throughout), dc 12 in MC, sl st in first dc to join. (12 sts, photo 1)
Round 2. Ch 2, ([dc 3, tr 1, dc 3] in first st (photo 2), dc 1, hdc 1, dc 1(photo 3)) 3 times, sl st in first dc to join. (30 sts, photo 4)
Round 3. Ch 2, dc 3 (photo 5), ([dc 2, tr 1, dc 2] in next tr (photo 6), dc 9) twice, [dc 2, tr 1, dc 2] in next tr, dc 6, sl st in first dc to join. (42 sts, photo 7)
Round 4. Ch 2, dc 5, ([dc 2, tr 1, dc 2] in next tr, dc 13) twice, [dc 2, tr 1, dc 2] in next tr, dc 8, sl st in first dc to join. (54 sts)
Continue growing your triangle as follows:
- Ch 2 to start the round (does not count as a st);
- Dc 1 in each dc from the previous round;
- [Dc 2, tr 1, dc 1] in each tr from the previous round;
- Sl st in the first st to join.
