The third pattern in the crochet pentagon series is this double crochet solid pentagon.
Much like the classic solid square and hexagon, this solid pentagon is made of just double crochet stitches.
The fabric is mostly solid with the exception of the corners, where the chain 2 gaps form a lovely star-like pattern.
The solid pentagon is an excellent alternative to the granny pentagon when you need a soft building block that doesn’t have too many holes.

HOW TO Double CROCHET A Solid PENTAGON – Free pattern TUTORIAL
ROUND 1
Make a MC.
Note. Alternatively, you can ch 4 and sl st into the first ch to form a ring, or ch 4 and crochet the first round in the first-made ch.
Round 1. Ch 4 (counts as a dc and a ch-2 sp), (dc 3, ch 2) 4 times, dc 2. Join the round with a sl st into the third-made ch (see pink arrow in photo 1). (15 dc, 5 ch-2 sps).
Round 2
Round 2. Sl st into the first ch-2 sp of round 1, ch 4 (counts as a dc and a ch-2 sp), dc 1 in same ch-2 sp (photo 3), (dc 3 (photo 4), [dc 1, ch 2, dc 1] in next ch-2 sp (photo 5)) 4 times, dc 3, sl st into third-made ch of initial ch-4 (photo 6). (25 dc, 5 ch-2 sps)
Round 3. Sl st into first ch-2 sp of previous round, ch 4 (counts as a dc and a ch-2 sp), dc 1 in same ch-2 sp, (dc 5, [dc 1, ch 2, dc 1] in next ch-2 sp) 4 times, dc 5, sl st into third-made ch of initial ch-4. (35 dc, 5 ch-2 sps)
Round 4. Sl st into first ch-2 sp of previous round, ch 4 (counts as a dc and a ch-2 sp), dc 1 in same ch-2 sp, (dc in each st on next side, [dc 1, ch 2, dc 1] in next ch-2 sp) 4 times, dc in each st on next side, sl st into third-made ch of initial ch-4. (45 dc, 5 ch-2 sps)
Continue to grow your pentagon following the same pattern logic as for round 4.
Notice how at each round, the sides of the pentagon grow by 2 sts, and the overall stitch count increases by 10 dc sts per round!
