Size

This pattern is written for sizes 12-24 Months, Child, and Adult.

Gauge

Using your 5.5-mm hook, 13 sts for 5 repeats of the wrapped arrow stitch in 4″ (10 cm).

Construction

This beanie is crocheted bottom-up working in the round joining each round with a slip stitch.

Brim

The first round of the brim is worked with the foundation double crochet (FDC).

The FDC will make your brim much stretchier and way more wearable than starting the hat with a foundation chain and the first round of double crochet.

Find a step-by-step tutorial on how to crochet the FDC HERE.

The brim is then completed by crocheting a couple of rounds with alternating front post and back post double crochet stitches.

Learn more about front and back post stitches HERE.

Body

The body of the beanie is crocheted using the wrapped arrow stitch worked in the round.

You can find a detailed step-by-step tutorial on how to crochet this stitch HERE.

Or watch the video tutorial…

Note that both tutorials show you how to crochet the wrapped arrow stitch flat, so turning your work at the end of each row.

However, for this beanie, you won’t need to turn your work. Instead, join each round with a sl st and keep working on the right side of your work.

Pattern Notes

  • If the pattern says “dc 2”, it means that you have to crochet 1 dc into each of the next 2 sts.
  • (…) – Repeat the instruction within brackets for the indicated times.
  • Join each round with a sl st between the last and first st of the round.
  • The stitch count is indicated within brackets at the end of each round’s instructions.
  • The initial ch-1 does not count as a st.
  • The pattern is written for sizes 12-24 Months (Child, Adult)

Row 1. With your 5.0-mm crochet hook, FDC 50 (55, 60). (50, 55, 60 sts)

Without twisting the FDC row and keeping the RS out, join it in a circle with a sl st into the first st.

Then, using the beginning tail of yarn, seam the base of the first and last sts of the FDC.

Start working in the round by joining each round with a sl st into the first st.
