How to Crochet a Ribbed Border for Blankets

Learn how to crochet a simple ribbed border for your blanket or throw.

Crochet Ribbed Border for Blankets - Raffamusa Designs

I used this easy and elegant ribbed edging pattern for my Color Salad Baby Blanket.

Normally, when I want to make something that looks like ribbing, I tend to use front post and back post double crochet stitches.

However, for my Color Salad Baby Blanket, I wanted a border that wouldn’t add too much bulk and would be as soft as the rest of the blanket.

Crocheting this ribbed border pattern takes slightly longer than making a ribbed border using front and back post stitches but the result is absolutely beautiful!

Crochet Ribbed Border – Free Pattern Tutorial

For this tutorial, I crocheted the ribbed border around a solid granny square without any gaps, which you can find HERE.

RS facing, join yarn in any st along the edge of the blanket.

Round 1. Ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc in each st around the blanket, and place 4 sc at each corner.

In the case of my solid granny square, I made 1 sc in each dc around. At the corners, [sc 4] in the corner tr. Sl st in first sc to join (photo 1).
