These Crochet Party Bear Coasters are a cute and quick idea for children’s birthday parties.
In addition to balloons and festoons, they will decorate your table adding even more color and the extra DIY-touch that we all like so much. And top of this, imagine how fun it would be for the kids if you crocheted one for each of them and they could get to keep their favorite when the party is over!
For these Crochet Party Bear Coasters, I used a mix of Rio Cotton from Lammy Yarns and Schachenmayr Catania which I had in my stash, but any equivalent cotton yarn will be good.

Materials
– 3.0-mm (3 USA, 11 UK) Crochet Hook
– 100% cotton (Sport – 5 PLY, Fine 2) in black, light brown, dark brown, red, and another contrasting color.
– Tapestry Needle

How to Read this Crochet Pattern
- (…) – Repeat the instruction within brackets for the indicated number of times.
- If the pattern says “5 sc”, it means that you have to make one single crochet in each of the next 5 stitches.
Special Stitches
Increase (Inc)
Throughout the pattern, an increase consists of 2 sts worked in the same indicated st.
Half Double Crochet Two Together (hdc2tog)
Yo, insert hook into the next st, pull up a loop (3 loops on your hook), yo, draw yarn through 2 loops (2 loops on your hook). Yo, insert the hook into the next st and pull up a loop (4 loops on your hook), yo and draw the yarn through all the loops.

Size
The Bear Party Coasters measure approximately 4″ (10 cm) by 5″ (13 cm). The measurements of the coasters can change quite a bit if you use a different kind of yarn.
Gauge
The gauge is not extremely important for this pattern, but just to get an idea, the first five rows of the Bear Coaster should have a diameter of approximately 4 cm (1.6”).
Crochet Party Bear Coasters
Using black yarn, make a MC.
1. 8 sc in MC, join with a sl st into the first sc. (8 sts)
2. Ch 1, 3 inc, join the light brown yarn, 5 inc carrying the black yarn. Join using black yarn. (16 sts)
3. With black, ch 1, (1 sc, 1 inc) three times. Switch to light brown, (1 sc, 1 inc) five times. Join using black yarn. (24 sts)
4. With black, ch 1, (1 inc, 2 sc) three times. Switch to light brown, (1 inc, 2 sc) five times. Join using black yarn. (32 sts)
Attach dark brown yarn.
5. Ch 1, (3 sc, 1 inc) eight times. Join with a sl st into the first sc. (40 sts)
From now on, work in hdc.
Join each round with a sl st into the first hdc.
6. Ch 1, (1 inc, 4 hdc) eight times. (48 sts)
7. Ch 1, (5 hdc, 1 inc) eight times. (56 sts)
8. Ch 1, (1 inc, 6 hdc) eight times. (64 sts)
9. Ch 1, (7 hdc, 1 inc) eight times. (72 sts)
Tie off.
Party Hat
Sk 1 st and join red yarn.
1. Make 8 hdc, 1 inc, and 8 hdc. (18 sts)
2. Ch 1, sk the first st, 1 hdc, 1 hdc2tog, 5 hdc, 1 inc, 4 hdc, 1 hdc2tog, 1 hdc (sk the last st). (15 sts)
3. Ch 1, sk the first st, 1 hdc2tog, 3 hdc, 1 inc, 3 hdc, 1 hdc2tog, 1 hdc. (12 sts)
4. Ch 1, sk the first st, 1 hdc2tog, 1 hdc, 2 inc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc2tog, 1 hdc. (10 sts)
5. Ch 1, sk the first st, 1 hdc2tog, 2 inc, 1 hdc2tog, 1 hdc. (8 sts)
6. Ch 1, sk the first st, 2 hdc2tog, 1 hdc. (4 sts)
7. Ch 1, sk the first st, 2 hdc. (2 sts)
8. Ch 1, sk the first st, 1 hdc. (1 sts)
Fasten off.
Hat Decoration
You can decorate the hat by surface crocheting every two rows using some yarn in a contrasting color.
Bear Ear 1
With right side facing, sk 2 st from the right side of the hat and attach the light brown yarn (keep the yarn in front of your work).
1. Sk 2 sts. Make 7 dc in the same st. Sk 2 sts and sl st into the next one.
Fasten off.
Attach the dark brown yarn on top of the first dc from the previous row.
2. Make 2 sc in each dc from the previous row. Sl st at the bottom of the ear.
Fasten off.
Bear Ear 2
With right side facing, sk 2 st from the left side of the hat and attach the light brown yarn.
1. Sk 2 sts and make 7 dc in the next st. Sk 2 sts and sl st into the next one.
Fasten off.
Attach the dark brown yarn in the st just next to the left side of the hat.
2. Sl st into the next 2 sts. Make one more sl st into the st at the base of the ear. Crochet 2 sc in each dc row 1.
Sl st at the basis of the ear and continue sl stitching all around the head of the bear.
Fasten off.
Finishing the Party Bear Coasters
Using a tapestry needle and black yarn, embroider the mouth and the eyes of the bear.
Fasten off. Weave in all ends.
Additionally, you could line the Crochet Party Bear Coasters with some felt to give them more thickness.
