Here’s a quick and free pattern to crochet cute mushroom appliques!
These cute little mushroom embellishments are perfect to sew on any Fall/Autumn projects, from home decor items to wearables and accessories.
You can crochet the cap in multiple colors to make anything from a mushroom to a toadstool!

PRINTABLE CROCHET PATTERN

Materials
- Any yarn
- Appropriate crochet hook size
Size
The pattern is available in two sizes: large and small.
With DK-weight (3, Light) cotton yarn and a 3.0-mm (11 UK) crochet hook, you can expect mushroom appliques of the following sizes:
- Large Mushroom – 1.6″ (4 cm) large by 2″ (5.2 cm) tall
- Small Mushroom – 1.3″ (3.3 cm) large by 1.5″ (3.9 cm) tall
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- BLO – Back Loop Only
- Ch – Chain
- Dc – Double Crochet
- Hdc – Half Double Crochet
- Inc – Increase
- MC – Magic Circle
- Sc – Single Crochet
- St – Stitch
- Tr – Treble Crochet
- Yo – Yarn Over

Patterns Notes
- If the pattern says “sc 2”, you need to sc 1 in each of the next 2 sts.
- (…) – Repeat the instructions within parenthesis for the indicated number of times.
- […] – Repeat the instructions within square brackets all in the same indicated st.
Large Crochet Mushroom – Free Pattern
Cap
With red, make a MC.
Round 1. Ch 2 (does not count as a st), dc 12 in MC, sl st in first dc to join. (12 sts)
Round 2. Ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc 1, hdc 1, [dc 5] in next st, hdc inc 1, sc 1, [hdc 1, dc 2], [dc 2, hdc 1], sc 1, hdc inc 1, [dc 5], hdc 1, sc 1, sl st in first st to join. (26 sts)
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Stem
Join white in BLO of the last sc of round 2 of the cap.
Ch 8.
Row 1. Tr 1 in the fourth ch from hook, tr 1, dc 2, hdc 1. Sl st in BLO of the first hdc of round 2 of the cap. (5 sts)
Fasten off and weave in your ends.
Small Crochet Mushroom – Free Pattern
Cap
With red, make a MC.
Round 1. Ch 1 (does not count as a st here and throughout), hdc 11 in MC, sl st in the first dc to join. (11 sts)
Round 2. Ch 1, sc 1, hdc 1, [dc 4] in next st, hdc inc 1, hdc 1, [hdc 1, dc 1, hdc 1], hdc 1, hdc inc 1, [dc 4], hdc 1, sc 1, sl st in first st to join. (21 sts)
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Stem
Join white in BLO of the last sc of round 2 of the cap.
Ch 5.
Row 1. Dc 1 in the third ch from hook, dc 1, hdc 1. Sl st in BLO of the first hdc of round 2 of the cap. (3 sts)
Fasten off and weave in your ends.
Finishing
With a length of white, embroider the spots on the mushroom cap.
Weave in all your ends.
