Crochet Mini Mittens Ornament - Free Pattern - Raffamusa Designs

Materials

  • 3.5 (E/4 US, 9 UK) Crochet Hook
  • DK (3, Light) Yarn
  • Tapestry Needle

Yarn

I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK (137 yds (125 m) per 50 g) in the following colors:

  • Red – Pillar Red (415)
  • White – Champagne White (403)

  • Inc – Increase

Special Stitches

Increase (Inc)
One increase consists of 2 sts worked in the same indicated st.

Size

2.4″ (6 cm) by 2″ (5 cm)

Gauge

This pattern is too small to accurately determine the gauge.

Pattern Notes

  • If the pattern says “sc 2”, you need to sc 1 in each of the next 2 sts.

Mini Mittens Ornament – Free Crochet Pattern

Crochet in the round working in a spiral.

Thumb

With your 3.5-mm hook and red, make a MC.

Round 1. Sc 6 in MC. (6 sts)

Round 2. (Sc inc 1, sc 2) twice. (8 sts)

Round 3-4 (2 rounds). Sc around. (8 sts)

Fasten off leaving a little tail for sewing.

Hand

With your 3.5-mm hook and red, make a MC.

Round 1. Sc 6 in MC. (6 sts)

Round 2. Sc inc 6. (12 sts)

Round 3. (Sc inc 1, sc 1) 6 times. (18 sts)

Round 4-8 (5 rounds). Sc around. (18 sts)

Do not fasten off but move to the joining part.

Joining

Continue crocheting from round 8 of the hand.

Round 9. Working in first st of last round of the thumb, sc 3, sc dec 1, sc 2, leaving last st of thumb unworked. Working on the sts of the hand, sk 1, sc 8, sc dec 1, sc 7. (22 sts)

Round 10. Sc 2, sc dec 1, sc 9, sc dec 1, sc 7. (20 sts)

Round 11. Sc 3, sc dec 1, sc 8, sc dec 1, sc 5. (18 sts)

Round 12. Sc 2, sc dec 1, sc 7, sc dec 1, sc 5. (16 sts)

Round 13. Sc 3, sc dec 1, sc 6, sc dec 1, sc 3. (14 sts)

Fasten off and make an invisible join.

With the tail from the thumb, seam the unworked sts from round 4 of the thumb and round 8 of the hand.

Cuff

The cuff is crocheted the same way as the brim of the Mini Hat Ornament. For step-by-step photos, please, check that pattern tutorial HERE.

With your 3.50-mm hook, join white in any st from round 13.

Ch 4.

Row 1. Sc 1 in the second ch from hook, sc 2. Sl st 2 working in next 2 sts on round 10. (3 sc, 2 sl sts)

Row 2. Ch 1 (does not count as a st here and throughout), turn. Sk next 2 sl sts, and BLO sc 3 working in the sc sts from row 1. (3 sts)

Row 3. Ch 1, turn. BLO sc 3. Sl st 2 working in next 2 sts on round 11. (3 sc, 2 sl sts)

Repeat rows 2 and 3 for a total of 6 times. At the end of the last repeat of row 3, sl st 1 instead of 2.

Joining

Using the sl st or zipper join, join the first and last rows of the cuff (alternatively, fasten off and seam the two rows together).

Fasten off and weave in your ends.

Finishing

With a length of white, embroider a snowflake of other decorations of your choice on the mitten.

Fasten off and weave in all your ends.

Mitten Minders

If you’re making two mittens connected by a cord (or mitten minders!), with your 3.5-mm hook, join white on the upper side of the cuff of the first mitten just above the thumb.

Ch 20 and sl st on the upper side of the cuff of the second mitten, also just above the thumb.

Row 1. Ch 1 (does not count as a st), turn. Sl st in each ch, sl st back in same st as joining. (21 sl sts)

Fasten off and weave in all your ends.
