Materials
- Any yarn
- Appropriate crochet hook size
For my leaves, I used DK (3, light) acrylic yarn and a 3.5 mm (E/4 US, 9 UK) hook.
Size
When crocheted with DK acrylic yarn and a 3.5-mm hook, you can expect a leaf of about 3.3″ by 3.3″ (8.5 by 8.5 cm).

Yo, insert hook in next st, yo, and draw up a loop (3 loops on your hook). Yo, pull through two (2 loops on your hook). Yo, insert hook in next st, yo, and draw up a loop. Yo, pull through two (3 loops on your hook). Yo, pull through all loops on your hook.
Half Double Crochet Decrease (Hdc dec)
Yo, insert hook in next st, yo, and draw up a loop (3 loops on your hook). Yo, insert hook in next st, yo, and pull up a loop (5 loops on your hook). Yo, pull through all loops on your hook.

Picot Stitch (Picot)
Ch 3, sl st in the back bump of the first ch.
Patterns Notes
- If the pattern says “sc 2”, you need to sc 1 in each of the next 2 sts.
- (…) – Repeat the instructions within parenthesis for the indicated number of times.

Crochet Maple Leaf Applique – Free Pattern
Make a MC.
Round 1
Ch 2 (does not count as a st), dc 12 in MC, sl st in the first dc to join. (12 sts)
Round 2
Ch 1 (does not count as a st). In the first st, [sc 1, ch 5 (photo 1), sc 4 starting from the second ch from hook (see arrows in photo 1)].
Sc 1 in the next st on round 1 (see arrow in photo 2, and photo 3). In next st, [sc 1, ch 6, sc 5 starting from the second ch from hook]. Sc 1 in the next st on round 1.
In the next st, [sc 1, ch 7, sc 6 starting from the second ch from hook]. Sc 1 in the next st on round 1.
Working in the next st, [sc 1, ch 6, sc 5 starting from the second ch from hook]. Sc 1 in the next st on round 1.
In the next st, [sc 1, ch 5, sc 4 starting from the second ch from hook]. Sc 1 in next st on round 1.
Sl st 2, ch 5, sl st 4 starting from the second ch from hook, sl st in the same st as the last sl st. Sl st in the first sc to join (photo 4).
Round 3
Ch 2, sl st back into the first st of round 2. Working in the next 4 chs (see arrows in photo 5), sl st 1, ch 1 (do not sk any sts), [sc 1, sl st 1], sl st 2 (photo 6).

Ch 2, sk turning ch, sl st 1 in the next sc. Ch 2 (do not sk any sts), sl st 2, sc 1, picot 1 (do not sk any sts), hdc 1. Dc dec (working in sts marked by white dots in photo 13), hdc dec working in the next sc and next ch (marked by pink dots in photo 13).
Continue working in the next 4 chs. Sc 1, picot 1 (do not sk any sts), sc 1, sl st 1, ch 2 (do not sk any sts), sl st 1. Ch 2, sk turning ch, sl st 1 in the next sc. [Sl st 1, ch 3, sl st 1] in the next sc, sl st 2, ch 2 (do not sk any sts), sl st 1.

Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing (photo 16).
