It’s time for a new crochet applique today, here is the Ho Ho Ho Christmas Applique!
The first time you might have seen this Ho Ho Ho Applique was in my Christmas Granny Square Collection last year.
This year, I decided to use this applique to make a slightly different project.
As I decided to send personalized Christmas cards to my family and friends back home, I thought a Ho Ho Ho Christmas card would look super cute and simple!

MATERIALS
- A small amount of Yarn of Choice
- Appropriate Hook Size
- Tapestry Needle
COLOR REFERENCE
I used Schachenmayr Catania in the following colors:
- A – Red (00115)
- B – Apple (00205)
- C – Moss (00412)
- D – Canary (002908)
- E – Natural (00105)
SIZE
With Sport (2, Fine) weight cotton yarn (I used Schachenmayr Catania) and a 2.5-mm (C/2 US, 12 UK) hook, each letter measures 0.9″ (2.3 cm) by 1.2″ (3 cm)..
GAUGE
This pattern is too small to accurately determine the gauge. Just keep in mind that the final size will depend on the yarn and hook you use.
CROCHET ABBREVIATIONS (US TERMS)
BLO – Back Loop Only
Ch – Chain
FLO – Front Loop Only
Hdc – Half Double Crochet
Inc – Increase
MC – Magic Circle
Sc – Single Crochet
Sk – Skip
Sl St – Slip Stitch
St – Stitch
Yo – Yarn over
SPECIAL STITCHES
Back Loop and Front Loop Only (BLO, FLO)

Increase (Inc)
One increase consists of 2 sts worked in the same indicated st.
Magic Circle (MC)

PATTERN NOTES
- If the pattern says to “hdc 2”, it means that you have to crochet 1 hdc in each of the next two sts.
- (…) – Repeat the instruction within round brackets for the indicated number of times.
- […] – Crochet the instruction within square brackets all in the same indicated st.
Ho Ho Ho Christmas Applique – Free Crochet Pattern
Letter O / Bauble Applique
With A, B, or C, make a MC.
Round 1. Ch 2 (does not count as a st), hdc 11 in the MC. (11 sts)
Round 2. Ch 1, hdc inc 11. (22 sts)
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Bauble Cap
With D, ch 3.
Row 1. Sl st in the second ch from your hook and in the next. (2 sts)
Row 2. Ch 1, turn. FLO sl st 2.
Row 3. Ch 1, turn. BLO sl st 2.
Fasten off.
Finishing
Attach the bauble cap just above the O applique.
Using E, embroider a shiny point on the top, left side of each O applique.
Weave in all your ends.
Letter H
With A, B, or C, ch 10.
Row 1. Hdc 1 in the third ch from your hook. Hdc 3.
Ch 8. Hdc 1 in the third ch from your hook, hdc 3.
Ch 6. Hdc 1 in the third ch from your hook. Hdc 3.
Sl st into the base of the hdc in front of your hook.
Sc 2, sl st into the front loop of the fourth hdc that you made in the first step.
Hdc 4 in the remaining 4 ch of the initial ch, ch 2, sl st into the first st of the initial ch.
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Finishing
Attach the H and O appliques as you prefer.
Fasten off and weave in all your ends.
