(Easy) Crochet Granny Chevron Cowl – Free Pattern

The crochet Granny Chevron Cowl is an easy and fun pattern and that I had been wanting to crochet for way too long!

But I just didn’t have the right yarn and didn’t want to order some (I was in a yarn-fasting mode for most of 2021)…

However (lucky me!), I was contacted by the lovely people at Katia Yarns who offered me to try a few yarns from their new collection.

The texture, weight, fiber, and everything about this Katia Arles Merino were exactly what I wanted for my cowl. So, I immediately chose a few colors et voila!

This crochet granny chevron cowl worked up literally in no time, and I’m in love with how it turned out!

Even though I had all the yarn in the world to crochet it, I think that this pattern could also work well for using all the bits and pieces of leftover yarn.

Imagine a sort of crochet chevron scrap-busting cowl!

Customize it!

I wrote the pattern in one size for adults.

However, you can easily customize the pattern to make it smaller or larger, maybe you can even make it into a double-wrap infinity scarf.

All you need to do is vary the number of initial granny triangles used as the foundation to build the cowl.

Simply add as many triangles as needed to reach the final circumference you want!

Construction

This cowl is crocheted bottom-up, in the round mainly using the granny chevron stitch.

The starting point is the joining of 4 half granny triangles by working the first row of the body.

Once the body is complete, the gaps of the granny chevron are filled one by one by working back and forth.

Finally, both top and bottom brims are worked directly on the body of the cowl.
