MATERIALS
- Yarn of choice
- Appropriate hook size
For this tutorial, I used DK-weight cotton yarn (King Cole Bamboo Cotton DK in Dusty Pink, 618) and a 4.5-mm (G/7 US, 7 UK) crochet hook.
ABBREVIATIONS (US TERMS)
- Ch – Chain
- Hdc – Half Double Crochet
- Sc – Single Crochet
- Sk – Skip
- St – Stitch
- Yo – Yarn Over
PATTERN NOTES
- If the pattern says “sc 2”, you have to crochet 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts.
- *… – Repeat the instructions from * for the indicated number of times.
Crochet Forked Cluster STITCH – QUICK PATTERN
Chain any number of chains.
Row 1. Yo, insert hook in third ch from hook, yo, and pull up a loop (3 loops on your hook), yo, insert hook in next ch, yo, and pull up a loop (5 loops on your hook). Yo, and pull through all 5 loops on your hook. The first forked cluster is done.
*Yo, insert hook in the same st as the last leg of the previous forked cluster. Yo, and pull up a loop (3 loops on your hook), yo, insert your hook in the next ch, yo, and pull up a loop (5 loops on your hook). Yo and pull through all loops on your hook. The second forked cluster is done.
Repeat from * until you have no chs left. Hdc 1 in the same ch as the last leg of the last forked cluster.
Row 2. Ch 1 (does not count as a st here and throughout), turn. Sc in each st across.
Row 3. Ch 1, turn. Work first forked cluster in the first 2 sts as follows: yo, insert your hook in the first st, yo, and pull up a loop (3 loops on your hook). Yo, insert your hook in the next st, yo, and pull up a loop (5 loops on your hook). Yo, and pull through all 5 loops on your hook.
*Yo, insert your hook in the same st as the last leg of the previous forked cluster. Yo, and pull up a loop (3 loops on your hook), yo, insert hook in the next st, yo, and pull up a loop (5 loops on your hook). Yo and pull through all loops on your hook.
Repeat from * until you have no sts left. Hdc 1 in the last st (same st as the second leg of last forked cluster).
Repeat rows 2 and 3 to grow your project.
Forked Cluster STITCH – STEP-BY-STEP CROCHET TUTORIAL
Ch any number of chs.
For this tutorial, I chained 35.
Row 1
Yo, insert hook in the third ch from hook (see arrow in photo 1), yo, and pull up a loop (3 loops on your hook, photo 2).
Then, yo, insert your hook in the next ch (see arrow in photo 3), yo, and pull up a loop (5 loops on your hook, photo 4).
Yo, and pull through all 5 loops on your hook (photo 5). The first forked cluster is done.
*Yo, insert your hook in the same st as the last leg of the previous forked cluster (see arrow in photo 6).
Yo, and pull up a loop (3 loops on your hook, photo 7). Yo, insert your hook in the next ch (see arrow in photo 8).
Again, yo, and pull up a loop (5 loops on your hook, photo 9), yo and pull through all loops on your hook (photo 10). The second forked cluster is done.
Repeat from * until you have no chs left (photo 11). Hdc 1 in the same ch as the second leg of the last forked cluster (photo 12). (32 forked clusters, 1 hdc)
Row 2
Ch 1 (does not count as a st here and throughout), turn. Sc in each st across. Pay attention not to sk the first st (photo 13) and the last st (photo 14). (33 sts)
Row 3
Ch 1, turn. Work the first forked cluster in the first 2 sts as follows: yo, insert your hook in the first st (see pink arrow in photo 15), yo, and pull up a loop (3 loops on your hook). Yo, insert your hook in the next st (see black arrow in photo 15), yo, and pull up a loop (5 loops on your hook). Yo, and pull through all 5 loops on your hook (photo 16).
*Yo, insert hook in the same st as the last leg of the previous forked cluster (see white arrow in photo 16). Yo, and pull up a loop (3 loops on your hook), yo, insert your hook in the next st (see black arrow in photo 16), yo, and pull up a loop (5 loops on your hook). Finally, yo and pull through all loops on your hook.
Repeat from * until you have no sts left (photo 17). Hdc 1 in the last st (the same st as the second leg of the last forked cluster, photo 18). (32 forked clusters, 1 hdc)
