Christmas Granny Squares

When I shared the Christmas granny squares last year, I still had a lot of ideas and squares in mind, which I just didn’t have the time or energy to add to the collection.

The gnome was definitely one of those missing granny squares and it’s been in my mind for almost a year.

So, it was definitely time I made a couple of these and free up brain resources for something else!

Add this pattern to your Ravelry queue HERE and favorite it (– thank you!) – or save it for later by pinning it to your favorite crochet Christmas board on Pinterest using this pin!

Finishing

Start by attaching the hat above round 4 of the granny square. Make sure to push the loops of the loop hdc sts down, and place the hat with its lover side (row 1 of the hat applique) covering the sts of round 4.

Then, sew the nose just below the hat, in the middle.

Finally, attach the hands on the side of the gnome and the shoes.

For the shoes, sew the initial ch of each shoe applique so that it follows the spaces between rounds 5 and 6 of the granny square.

Weave in all your ends.

Well done, your Christmas Gnome Granny Square is ready!

    • Hi Teresa, I’ll try to make one as soon as possible! In the meantime, I do have a video on how to crochet the loop-hdc on my channel (you can find the link the “special stitches” section in this blog post). Maybe that one can help a bit?

    • Hi,
this square is about 5.5″ (14 cm) when you make it with DK yarn and a 4.0-mm hook, and 7″ (18 cm) when you make it with Aran weight yarn and a 5.5-mm hook.
      I hope this helps 🙂
