During my last CAL, the Spring Farm granny square CAL, I shared the pattern for a very quick and easy carrot applique. Since everyone was very excited about these little carrots, I thought of sharing the pattern for free here on the blog too!
These carrots work up in just one row. As a finishing touch, we’ll add some green leaves by knotting a couple of fringes together. Easy peasy!

For the Spring Farm CAL, I used the carrot applique to make a Carrot Field granny square, using the Simple Circle Granny Square as a base.
However, there are many other themes and occasions in which you can use a crochet carrot applique! For example, you could use a few to embellish your kitchen towels and potholders, or to add to your market bag, Easter makes, and much more!

MATERIALS
- A small amount of Yarn of Choice in Orange and Green
- Appropriate Hook Size
- Tapestry Needle
SIZE
To have an idea of what size to expect with different yarn sizes and hooks, refer to the table below.

GAUGE
This pattern is too small to accurately determine the gauge. Just keep in mind that the final size of the carrot will depend on the yarn and hook you use.
CROCHET ABBREVIATIONS (US TERMS)
Ch – Chain
Hdc – Half Double Crochet
Dc – Double Crochet
Sc – Single Crochet
Sl St – Slip Stitch
St – Stitch
Tr – Treble Crochet
Yo – Yarn over
PATTERN NOTES
- If the pattern says “tr 3”, it means that you have to crochet 1 tr in each of the next 3 sts.
Carrot APPLIQUE – FREE CROCHET PATTERN
With orange yarn, ch 12.
Row 1. Tr 1 in the fourth ch from your hook, tr 3, dc 2, hdc 2, [sc 1, ch 1, sl st 1] in the last ch. (9 sts)
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Carrot Greens
Cut two pieces of green yarn of approximately 7″ (18 cm).
Pass the two pieces of yarn through the BLO of the second and third ch of the turning chains at the top of the carrot applique.
Fold the two lengths of yarn in half and make a tight knot with all 4 strands.
Finally, trim the ends to your desired length.
